Exploring Surrealism

  • ArtsClub 311 East 3rd Street New York, NY, 10009 United States (map)

Learn how to analyze and talk about Surrealist art, in ArtsClub’s interactive autumn series, Exploring Surrealism!

In each class, we’ll explore a different facet of the story of Surrealism, from its origins in the whimsical Dada movement to the influence of Sigmund Freud, and the artwork created by women and nonbinary artists. Hone your analytical skills and apply what you’ve learned to express your own opinions about Surrealist artworks!

Classes are stand alone, so pick the week that fits your schedule or book all four!

Artists include: Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dalí, Leonora Carrington, and many more!

All lessons meet in-person at 311 East Third Street, New York.
Vaccination is required for entry.

Class 1: Dada Cyborgs

Sunday, September 26
10:00-11:30AM

This week, explore the global movement that rocked the art world at its core, and nurtured the careers of soon-to-be Surrealists, like Max Ernst. The Dada movement gave us Ernst, strange cyborgs, and a whole new way to think about, and make, art.
