East Village Studio Night | Abstract Expressionism

  • 311 East 3rd Street New York, NY, 10009 United States (map)

“In a moral crisis of a world in shambles, it was no longer possible to go on painting the old stuff: flowers, reclining nudes.”

-Barnett Newman

Explore the world of Abstract Expressionism, a movement rooted in the post-World War II era, synonymous with the vibrant art scene of New York. This collective of groundbreaking artists included Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Willem & Elaine de Kooning, Mark Rothko, and Helen Frankenthaler, among others. While varied in their techniques, they all shared a common goal: to transcend the conventional boundaries of art through spontaneity, emotional depth, and freedom of expression. During this event, you’ll learn about the boom of creativity that defined this era, how it all linked together, and how you can create your own Abstract Expressionist paintings that capture the spontaneity, emotion and creative freedom of life in New York.

Art history lesson and all art supplies are included.
