East Village Studio Night | Hilma af Klint

  • 311 East 3rd Street New York, NY, 10009 United States (map)

Hilma af Klint was a Swedish artist known for her spiritual abstract paintings and biologic studies. Her works uniquely combined scientific illustration, geometry, and color theory. Af Klint began making her large-scale abstract paintings in 1906, pioneering the style several years before artists like Paul Klee, Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky, who was credited as the “Father of Abstraction. Af Klint’s process included conducting séances with a group of women that called themselves “De Fem” (The Five), and translating those findings into her work. During this event, you’ll learn about Hilma af Klint’s journey and paint your own works on canvas incorporating color, geometry, biological studies and spiritual associations.

Tickets includes lesson and all art materials.
