Dupont Studio Session | Henri Matisse: Fauvist Painting

  • ArtsClub DC 1506 19th Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20036 United States (map)

"One tone alone is a color, two tones are a chord, three tones are life.”

- Henri Matisse

Known for his expressive use of color, loose brushwork, and joyful approach to painting, Henri Matisse revolutionized the art world by using color not merely to represent reality, but to evoke emotion and create an entirely new visual language.

After a brief lecture on the fauvist movement, you’ll experiment with vivid color combinations, energetic brushstrokes, and simplified forms—just as Matisse did in masterpieces like Woman with a Hat and The Red Studio. The workshop will encourage you to break free from traditional representations and create art that is driven by feeling and expression, rather than realism.

Ticket includes art history lesson, all art materials and aprons/smocks/coveralls to wear while making art.
